26km of Cycling

BW1

The result? Jelly bean legs, tanned face and hands, satisfying beef noodle lunch and tons of photos.

Just to have a sense of scale, I’m uploading this following pic as well.

cycle dist

Ms Gracy Tan’s route was the green one, and mine was the red one, to and fro. We met at my place at Pasir Ris in the morning, and then headed to Changi Beach, before going down straight to East Coast Park. As you can tell, there’s one stretch of road along Changi International Airport that seems like it’s FOREVER. Endless road literally.

To be honest, I didn’t take THAT much photos actually, coz mounting and dismounting my bike to get a good spot is pretty tiring, and like I said I’m quite the bum type. But I still manage to get some decent shots, and converted them with some very interesting effects.

Never did realize that Changi Beach Park is so serene. Maybe coz it’s a Thursday though.

Endless Road

This was the stretch I was talking about. Can’t really see the end – about a whopping 6km of straight bike path.

All that Glitter is not Gold

Gold class tix1

You see, watching movie in a cinema has always been a luxury to me. When I was young, dad would ride me to a cinema just to catch a flick and it would have been the most exciting thing I’ve done whole week.

So when I was presented with a pair of Gold Class tix last year, we waited for almost half a year before using it on Johnny Depp and his dark eyeliner.

But of course, going to a movie would imply an outing with food. And boy oh boy I wish I can eat those sashimi right now.

Night Lights

Singapore Nite3

When I first realized the beauty of night shots, it’s an exciting revelation. Unfortunately, I’ve never got to do it because I’m quite the lazy bum – and opportunities have passed me by many times. It’s always either I didn’t bring the tripod and attempted with my shaky hands, or I brought the tripod and I was too lazy to take it out.

So finally on a holiday, I’ve decided to go all out and whip out my tripod with my cam somewhere downtown at promenade. It’s quite intimidating actually because every one is there – those with huge medium format cams, tripods that can ward off potential robbers and lens that can buy you a car. But there are also small fry like me and some other people trying to find a nice spot to shot some stuff.

Paid off quite well actually, as I travel down along Esplanade to get some other shots.

Middle Mouse; Planting Tree

Pasir Ris Park0023

Every year around this period, Singapore and its surrounding countries are plucked out from the globe and shoved straight up through a dimensional portal into a steam room.

Not an oven, not a sun-tan baking bed – a steam room literally. Last Sunday apparently was a record hot day in 6 years – 35.3 deg C. Now I know people in temperate countries might sneer at the ‘record’ – nyeeehhh, 35 deg only, not like 40 deg at some other places.

Well, to be honest, I have not experienced a 40 deg day before so I can’t comment on how hot it is compared to the ‘record’ we had. But, I did get sick on Sunday – as a result of coming in and out between warm and cold places. MRT was cold; station was warm. Church was cold; the void deck was searing warm. Everyone practically blasted their air con, so whenever you enter an air con place, it’s a stark 17 deg difference.

Which left me with a 38 deg fever on Sunday night. As the days passed by I realized that given this kinda weather, you probably can get heatstroke while sleeping at night.

It rained today, and the whole sky was cloudy. But we still sweat just by breathing. Disgusting.

Political Apathy

PAP

For the past 10 years of my life here in Singapore, never have I heard of the term ‘Opposition Party’ to be of any significant weight.

Not until now. I admit it. I’m quite apathetic when it comes to politics. Partly because we Malaysians Chinese will probably never get a shot at doing politics anyway. March 08 was a great eye opener, and I guess it had something to do with the response you find in Singapore now.

20 odd years ago, I never heard of election as something that’s so happening – everything is just the way it is and will continue to be to an indefinite amount of time. Now though, things are a bit different. If you go to Malaysia – especially West Malaysia, and spark off a political topic among the heartlanders, you won’t have to sleep for the night. Quite angsty actually.

Decades ago the answers were all quite standard – leave larh, cannot do anything about it what. That’s why I’m here today. That’s why 50% of my family is not in Malaysia. Used to joke that Malaysian Chinese is a bit like refugees all over the world.

Sincerely, at the bottom of my heart, I’d hope for some kinda equality in Malaysia. But oh well, maybe I’d never live to see it.

Hot day

Serenity

It’s my off day today, and normally I can only get things done on off days cos when I end work on weekdays/Sat, the sun has already bid my side of the world good bye.

So I’ve decided to make full use of my little toy, and rode down to Whitesands for a bite. After which I went on to Pasir Ris Park, and to my surprise, I found a little horse stable. So, having parked my bike I happily shuttered a few of the horses and they were quite friendly actually.

After which I went on to take some other images at the park, just for the fun of it. It’s quite a nice place actually, and cycling there to shoot is quite an exercise too!

Park Stable

Of course, all thanks to my trusty little steel horse – it hasn’t broke down yet and I hope it wont. The chain came off about 2x already but got it fixed so that it’s tighter at the gears.

As you can tell, I’ve gotten myself the cheap version of Photoshop so I can easily crop up some prints, do some nice effects and frame them together.

Hope to post more pics when I got the time Smile

Some motivation

Testing0002

You see, pictures are huge motivation for you to post on blogs. when you have nice pictures, you tend to have more things to say. Whereas if you’re just ranting on and on, you’d run out of stuff in a jiffy.

That’s why I’m putting up more post at the moment – coz I have more pictures now. Though I must say that most of my pics are fairly limited to my living area, but still it speaks a thousand words.
