Night to Freedom

Less than 12 hours... i'll be outside now, in the warm afternoon sun enjoying my FREEDOM! 3 months holiday.. suddenly uni life seems to be rewarding after all.. minus the exams..

For those who still dont know, i'm going off to Germany for immersion, and i've been assgined to a host family living in Kornwestheim 10 km north of Stuttgart. I've got to call them after exam to arrange for them to pick me up etc.

Above is the exact location of Kornwestheim and it is situated in the state of Baden-Wurtermberg, a state where i will have to return to do my SEP in year 3. Nearing south of Germany, the weather is deemed to be more extreme as it is inland so if it rains, it might drop to about 14C in summer. i'll be travelling to north Germany in one of the weekends to Germany's biggest island - Ruegen during one of the weekends and together with the Singapore's Student Association. According to Martin, my German grandmaster, it'd be quite fun!!

Speaking of which, i need to raise some funds so if anyone has any temp jobs during the 1st 2 weeks of May, tell me k?

The King

Been reading 1 & 2 Samuel these days in QT and cant help but to notice again how remarkable David was. Yes it was taught untold times in Sunday schools and sermons but it is always different when we read it ourselves and think about it ourselves, because His words are so wonderful.

David was merely a boy when he was anointed and he waited for about ~15 years? before he became the king of Israel. In the course he had several chances to kill the former king and establish himself as king, so maybe it would have amount to a cut down of ~5 years? but he didnt do so and the Lord establish him as, arguably, the best human king in Israelite history. The amount of patience and fear of Lord is intriguing and inspiring, for us people living in the 21st century. With all these instant gratifications that we crave for, it is hard just to stand by the decision to wait for the Lord.

The statue above is a depiction of David by Michaelangelo when he was about to go off to fight Goliath. It took Michaelangelo 3 years to finish the project in 1504 with a monolith of marble. These types of sculpture art are considered the highest form because it mimics Creation, and thus the nudity does not appear as obscene, but rather as perfection.

But of course, the statue is not of most importance. Rather, it is His words and David's example of how we should fear the Lord that is.

Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars

The greatest RTS ever. That is, after Blizzard's War and Star craft. Seriously, this game kick ass. The graphic is superb and sadly, the graphic requirement has moved beyond what my com or my darling's com can support, so i have to set everything to min when i play it. When details set to max, it will just leave you drooling for more. Gameplay wise, i think this time round it's more interesting. CnC has been my all time favourite and they just got better. They actually developed a fictional explanation on tiberium and its properties, and guess what, the explanation came from people in the MIT. I'd say, 9/10 for it.

P/S: the reason why Blizzard beat them is because after 10 years since launching, there are still people playing Starcraft. That is insane.

Dream Car

This, my dear friends, is the car... Credits to Clarkson and top gear's absolutely wonderful documenting... Simply put, i think top gear is, like the Carrera GT, the best car critics and documentary ever.

Anyways, going to Stuttgart this May.. and if u look at the Porsche emblem, u can see that there's a little 'Stuttgart' written on it, and that's one of the reason why i'm going there. Haha!

Enjoy the ride.

It's high time.. WOOHOO!!

Yes it's the time of the sem when people camp at the dining hall to do what they're forced to do - a transformation from a normal human being to a ridiculous, stagnant, haggard-looking monster otherwise known as the muggertoads. All students in NUS are conformed to this transformation, though some may resist more than others. Those who do not, either 1) comes from our dear motherland and btw, are already a muggertoad; or 2) have decided that NUS is not their habitat and want to move out asap.

i happen to be one of those who resist a bit more this semester. the sheer amount of things to study is mind-blowingly huge, and the more they stack up, the more i tend to resist... yes it's not really a good semester and one rule-of-thumb: never take 6 modules when you have 4 cores, well i mean 5...

over the past few days, the transformation has been rather diffcult, sort of like forced upon myself because i have to. You find it funny when this transformation tries to take over, every simple little thing in life becomes absolutely meaningful. i blogged more, played more guitar and read more comics than any other time during the semester... perhaps i'm born with these inherent resistance against transforming...

but still, resisting it does have a price to pay... it has turn me into a half-bred: nocturnal night ghost which literally sleeps in the day and wakes up when the sun goes down. it's not that i'm a muggertoad doing my job at night. it's just i cannot sleep. and i cannot study either. sad. BUT, this is not the first time it happened this year. last sem hairs were strewn around the floor like i'm balding or something.. this sem insomnia took over. So i'm determined this sem i'm not going to be discouraged but just to go through it, knowing that Lord i'm doing all i can, to be a better man...

like i said, it's high time.. !!

My Baby

is none other than...

Yeap!! i've been wanting to document her and give her the credits coz she's absolutely gorgeous!!

That's her case and i bought it separately.. she's a vintage Japanese Epiphone Les Paul Custom.. yes it's a mouthful but who cares...

The headstock says it all, with the Gibson trademark open book stock which is no longer on any Epihpones made in korea.. which means, she's no longer in production.

i bought it almost half a year ago.. and she is so far and will be my No1 guitar in the future.. well at least before i decide to get a Gibson.. haha

Well then, i think this is really one good investment coz the selling price will not drop a lot.. as it is rare and is now out of production.. i think Les Pauls currently is my ideal tone, but not as versatile as a Strat or a Tele.. so for now, i will stick to it and until i grow out of the Gibson sound.. then i'll figure out a swap.. : )

Depressed...

A depressed South Korean kiddo came to class one day with 2 semiautomatic pistols he bought 2 months ago and murdered 32 students & teachers, himself being the 32nd... The Virginia Tech massacre has been in the news lately and it's really quite depressing... headlines everywhere and the pic u see above is the vigil the students held to mourn for those who departed...

Despite the incident, the political leaders in Virginia are still against banning guns, because they are elected on the grounds of pro-ammunition... what's the world coming to? I mean, it's really not helping by explaining that it's due to the kid's weird behavior and dark, twisted thoughts that led to his massacre... there are bound to be these type of people everywhere.. rite? but there's not so many places with laws that allow 12 year old kids to buy guns...

I'm not surprised if they blame video games for the massacre... somebody's got to be the scapegoat, and of course, guns will still be available to the public for protection... perhaps in light of these massacres, like those in columbine and virginia tech, our dear leader of the free world will realise something's gone wrong..

God Of War II

So u see, this is the game that made me want to watch 300... i havent actually finished it yet.. initially i thought that it was just some kinda random game from the stall that my friend bought but gosh... this is really one helluva game. like 300, it is gory, bloody and well, not really full of abs... it's about this Spartan God of War, Kratos, who was banished to become a mortal and he is avenging his torment by attempting to kill the one who betrayed him - Zeus.. yes i know it's far fetched...

But oh well, it easily deserves a 9.5/10... it topped the game chart on every bloody gamesite i went.. some random game huh...

300

Finally, i manage to watch this show... some comments on it: gory, bloody and full of abs.. i still dunno who the actor is... maybe he'll just be remembered as the 'Spartan King in 300', much like Tobey Maguire remembered as Spiderman. Overall the movie's great!! it's kinda late now when i give this review coz the movie's coming off screen.. but recently i had a chance to play the God of War II and i just wanted to watch this after i played it... haha...
Hmm... i'd give it a 8/10 overall, more to the action and inspiration... to chiong for my exam.. just hope that i wont die like them in the exam hall.. lol.. : )

A Fresh Start : )

It's been about 3 years since i've blogged the last time. it all ended with a pathetic post about a toilet. well, that's modem connection for u and right here, right now, i'm giving it another try.... just to see how long it will last.. i've revived the chatterbox but if u're keen to leave anything, please leave ur name.. it's irritating to get anons here and there...

well, life's changed... busy busy busy but i figured that if i spend about 30 min per day just to document my life... it'd be full of memories next time....

enjoy..
