Acquired taste
There really is such a thing called acquired taste. I find it especially true in music. Growing up playing classical guitar, it wasn’t the best kind of music I like.
You have stuff like Jay Chou, David Tao, all your backstreet boys and 911s, classical sounds really off sometimes. Like there’s no climax, or the climax is too unrecognizable. Its quite a curse cause our ears are so accustomed to lazy voices, it actually sounds nice.
It’s not after many years when I’m sitting here typing this blog post, and listening to Messiah playing on my iTunes that I realize the beauty of baroque. Perhaps you have to sing it to appreciate the beauty, or perhaps it just comes with age.
I’m not saying this cause I have somehow become a maestro in music, coz I’m frankly still ‘a sweat outside the door’. But classical really do sound like another class of its own now.
I still enjoy my periodic stint of Jay and David, but it’s a whole new world out there with Bach, Haydn and my fav Handel.
